Healthcare Hero Program FAQs

Now more than ever, our healthcare heroes can benefit from surrounding themselves with nature to recuperate. To thank them for their brave efforts on the front lines, Outdoorsy is donating free nights to our heroes to enjoy. You can too.

To help provide additional information on Outdoorsy’s healthcare hero program, we’ve compiled a list of answers to the most common questions we’re hearing.

General

Who qualifies for this program?
Any frontline medical professional that is actively working during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, care aids, and all the other important roles that are working in a medical environment. Upon winning a trip, you’ll be asked to send a picture of your healthcare badge/identification to confirm your eligibility.

How long will this program be running?
At this time, we’ll be receiving hero story submissions until June 30, 2020. We’ll start selecting recipients in May and will announce them regularly. You will be notified by email if your hero is selected.

Can I submit more than one hero story?
Absolutely! We want to hear from our Outdoorsy community about all the heroes they are seeing in their lives.

What information are you asking for in the submission and where will it be shared?
A big part of our program is to spotlight these heroes and their touching stories. We’ll be sharing them on our website and social channels. In the submission form, we are asking for some background information on the hero (we only share their first name and city publicly). We’re also asking for a photo of your hero, so please have this ready.

How will you be selecting winners?
The team at Outdoorsy will be reading your hero story submissions, reviewing nominations, and selecting road trip winners on a weekly basis throughout the month of May. You will be notified by email if your hero is selected and we’ll also announce their name on Outdoorsy’s social channels.

Can I donate money toward a healthcare hero’s trip if I don’t want to book a trip right now?
We’ll be rolling out a gift card option in the future to help facilitate a trip donation. Once that is available, certain gift card denominations will qualify for trip donations that we’ll then add directly to the pot.

Renters

Do I need to take the trip right away?
Not at all. As long as your booking is requested and confirmed before June 30, 2020, it will contribute toward our vacation pool. Please make sure you’re booking a trip during a time that is safe for you to do so.

What’s the policy around cancellation / rescheduling my trip? Will the night still be donated to healthcare workers?
If you reschedule your trip, we’ll honor the vacation nights to our healthcare heroes. Unfortunately, if you cancel, we’ll have to remove the night from the pool.

Healthcare Heroes

Can I nominate myself if I’m a healthcare worker?
Yes, please do!

How many nights are included in my trip?
A trip is defined as two nights and three days. If you wish to go for longer, you have the option of extending the rental at your own cost. We encourage you to discuss the details of your trip with the RV owner at the time of booking.

Who can I bring with me on this trip?
The travel party restriction will depend on the RV you select from our pool of eligible RV listings. As you’ll see, RV sizes can range from small campervans to large motor homes or fifth wheels. So long as you follow the owner’s guidelines on the rig’s capacity, you’ll be good to go.

Can I travel anywhere in the US or Canada?
The mileage guidelines will vary from listing to listing. So long as you follow the mileage guidelines the owner has put in place, you’re free to explore wherever you like. When booking, please be sure to reference any mileage restrictions and discuss your travel plans ahead of time with the owner.

Do I need to go on this trip right away?
Recipients will have until the end of the year to take a trip using their Outdoorsy travel credits.

Owners

I’m already an owner listed on Outdoorsy and I’d like to participate. How do I do that?
Great! Fill out this form to share some additional details with us about your rig and location. As part of that form, we also ask that you agree to discount your rig to $100/night for two nights if it is selected by a healthcare hero for their trip. Outdoorsy will be funding the two-night trip at that price.

Can I submit more than one vehicle to be in the program?
Absolutely!

I already submitted my vehicle(s) to be part of the healthcare housing program. Can they also be included in this one?
Yes, of course! When you fill out this form to add your vehicle(s) to the program, you’ll see a section for owners who have already submitted their vehicles to be a part of our healthcare housing program. By selecting this option on the form, we’ll also add your vehicle info and location details to the healthcare heroes program.

What happens if a healthcare hero selects my vehicle for their trip and would like to extend it beyond the two days?
We are advising each road trip recipient to discuss the details of their trip directly with you, the RV owner, at the time of booking. For each hero selected, Outdoorsy will be funding the cost of a two-night rental at the discounted rate of $100/night. If the recipient wishes to take a longer trip, they will need to discuss this option with the RV owner. Unless otherwise discussed between the recipient and the RV owner, the recipient will need to extend the duration of the trip at their own cost and at the RV owners regular nightly rate.
